Adolescence is a critical phase in the life of every individual, marked by rapid physical, emotional, and social changes. For adolescent girls in rural area of the Brijmanganj Block of Maharajganj district in eastern Uttar Pradesh, this phase is often shaped by systemic challenges including gender discrimination, gender violence, limited access to education, early marriage, poor health awareness and restricted mobility. These barriers significantly hinder their ability to realize their full potential and actively participate in decision-making processes affecting their lives.
The Project "Nayi Disha – Empowering the Voice of Tomorrow" project has been conceptualized to address these shortcomings. Under this initiative, a supportive environment will be fostered to help adolescent girls evolve into aware, self-confident, and empowered individuals. The objective of this initiative is to mobilize approximately 400 adolescent girls into organized groups, thereby fostering mutual cooperation, leadership development, and a spirit of collective action among them. With this specific objective in mind, and in collaboration with the Azim Premji Foundation, the Key Light Foundation is implementing this program across 8 Gram Panchayats in Brijmanganj.
“Nayi Disha” aspires to create a transformative pathway where adolescent girls in Brijmanganj Block of district Maharajganj are not just beneficiaries, but active participants and leaders of change—shaping a more equitable and inclusive future for themselves and their communities
